That was... a lot. I'm impressed by the amount of research that must have been conducted for this book. It really spans hundreds of years of one family. I knew several parts of it already but seing it in the bigger context was really cool. But there were soooo many names. :D Luckily I didn't read it to become an expert on the Romanovs but because I was curious and wanted to get some details on the things I already knew. And oh my, did I get some details. It seems like except for Catherine the Great, who loved art, the other's had only two hobbies: killing family members and creating new ones.
Jokes aside this actually was a super interesting book and I have a better understanding of Russian and European history now.
I mostly listened to it on audio book otherwise I probably wouldn't have finished it this qickly. I'm glad I had the physical book as well, though, because the family trees, listst of protagonists at the beginning of each chapter and the photos included were really helpful.
