I loved this book.  It had some of my favorite elements:  dual time lines, interesting history, flawed people.

Incredible storytelling and structure with beautiful, moving storylines and chapters that switch between characters as well as “then” and “now.” Something that many authors cannot pull off, but when done right, like this book, it sings.

Really a masterclass in how to weave stories in and out of each other so they all stitch together as a piece of art in the end.

My only complaint is the last few chapters seemed to rush compared to the rest of the story…but the story ending was just as touching and beautiful as the rest.

A lot of emotions throughout…especially wanting to call your mom after.

Great book! Relatable characters where you love them one minute and hate them the next. Insightful into the Chinese-Carribean experience and the sense of dual identity many Carribeans felt when they settled into new lives in the UK. Short chapters keep you turning the pages.
