Echo is the first book since Voyager that kept me wanting to read more. I usually have a few moments of “get on with it, Gabaldon” while reading her books, but this time that never really happened. It was an enjoyable read with many interesting side characters and their stories all come together perfectly!

Pacing is still a bit off because she know she’s wants to write more, so she’s drawing it out then remembering she needs to move the story along. Claire’s knowledge and ability to do complex surgeries irks because two hundred years precious to having learned it, it shouldn’t have a 100% success rate but it does. She’s bringing in too many characters whose families all connect over centuries and making it more complicated than it should be. I can’t decide if she does a good job showing all the views of the times (re race, sex) or if she goes too far in the portrayal for a book written in 2011, notwithstanding that she started the series in the 1980s (ish). I do still like Ian, I think Williams POV was largely unnecessary, and while I love John and Jamie’s relationship, wtf?
