Worthy of its Pulitzer Prize!  Beautiful work and intense characters who you root for despite the odds and reality of life. A flagrant and justified condemnation of Big Pharma and how we act as those people “not like us” are disposable 😖

I don’t even know where to start exactly, I had heard good things about it, but they didn’t even come close to how much I loved this book. I was just so genuinely moved by it. I laughed out loud, ugly cried, and got so angry I couldn’t even think straight. The Dickens-esque criticism and exploration of complex humanity was perfectly paired with the contemporary southern setting. Kingsolver really just wrote the shit out of this book. I was so sad it was over, but so happy it was over too.

This has been one of my favorite books that I’ve read in the past 5 years.

I really enjoyed this book despite its heavy themes.  It made me think about America’s habit of exploiting our rural workers, our inability to make our children a priority, and the insidiousness of the pharma companies that targeted small towns and created major addiction issues.
It found myself rooting for Demon over and over and despite many falls, watching him grow.
If you enjoyed Dicken’s David Copperfield, this book will feel familiar.

A few inconsistencies at the beginning of the book. But overall, a good story about addiction & generational curses
