The world building, the characters, the plot. All of this lore and rich story in just 160 pages. I fall in love in the first few pages and read it in one sitting. (All the TWs are verry mild and its high school apropriate)

this story is something else.

it’s strange and so different and at the same time speaks so many truths.

i liked and hated how the whales are humanities in this book. how the use our kinds of weapons, ships and live in cities and work, instead of having a more animalistic version of those things - BUT it does make this story appeal to more readers i would guess.
it makes it easier to see people in the whales and connect to the story.

i do love how this story ends, how it discovered and unveils this devil and shows what a real devil is. that’s just how i enjoy this type of story.

but it’s pretty brutal.
both in picture and storytelling.
there is a lot of death, murder and killing. there is torture and brutality…
it’s not a nice little story.

but i think it works very well and i enjoyed it a lot more than i expected both the first time i read it and even more so on the reread.

it’s something different but well told.
