I liked this autobiography more than I thought I would! I didn’t go into it with any particular assumptions or anticipations. I never really knew Dapper Dan’s life story, just knew of him and that he tied into hip-hop/rap fashion.
His experiences give great qualitative insight into how hard it is to be one of “the ones” that tries to individually use acquired skills and resources to counter the neighborhood’s issues that are of the government & society’s making. The way in which he was able to pivot, and how somewhat clear his discernment has always been despite his activities lending themselves to the contrary, was fascinating to understand.
