Had to go back to discover Sunny's roots in the RBP world. Now that I know the story behind the creation of the character, it's hard NOT to picture Helen Hunt as Sunny.

Favorite quotes from this book...

"It's probably better to base your reaction on knowledge than on ignorance."
"The more things you like the more opportunities you have to be happy."

My ranking might have differed if I read the actual book rather than listening to the audio version. The audio book has terrible production that proved distracting. The book came out in 1999. Today's technology would change the way the story plays out. It was striking how often I thought "use a cell phone."

Sunny Randall is a former cop who has become a private eye. She’s left her husband and is in the process of getting a divorce. Her husband is a member of a Boston crime family, and she has trouble with his associates. As a policeman, her father had been trying to put his family in prison, and this was a huge conflict in Sunny’s marriage. Sunny is hired by a rich couple whose 15 year old daughter has run away. The father trying to become governor but when Sunny starts checking, it turns out their daughter had been threatened by the mob after she witnessed a crime. Sunny then has to figure out how to save the daughter and fix the problem with the mobsters.

Like the Spenser books, the dialogue is crisp and fun. Nobody writes snappy dialogue like Parker does, and he’s great in this book. The characters aren’t deep, but there are some good personalities and the interaction between Sunny and the girl are very moving at times.

It’s a good start, I’m looking forward to reading more of the books in the series.

Now that I have finished all the Jesse Stone books that Robert J Parker started and then after he died, they have continued by other authors, I can finally start the Sunny Randall books.

So, Sunny is a former police officer turned private investigator. She is divorced from Richie Burke, who is from a criminal family. Later in her life, she becomes involved with Jesse Stone.

This book is a great introduction to Sunny and how cool she is with a gun, her beauty, her sexuality, her willingness to be successful, and her dog, Rosie!

The premise for this one is she is hired by a wealthy family to find their missing daughter. Good and bad things happen and she does find her with the help from her ex-husband, her good friend Spike, and a bad guy named Tony Marcus.

I enjoyed the book, and am looking forward to reading the rest of the books.

A feminist, who is thoughtful and lovely.
A quote was 'be a man' means something specifically when you say it, but 'be a woman' who knows what that means...each woman needs to figure that out.

Reread all the sunny randall books over the weekend. I 'miss' her. Wish there were more books about her and like these.

The writing was so bad, just awful. The story was interesting but how aggressively this character was written by a man in every sense was just unsettling. So many things were just factually wrong to. I just did not love the style and characters.
