I read this to my son tonight.
It hits different reading it as a mother now. The perfect allegory for motherhood.
Strong love. Wanting to give all parts of yourself until you have nothing left just to make your boy happy.

Shel Silverstein has been one of my favourite authors for years, and this story is one that never fails to bring me to tears (No, really, every time I try to read this to my kids I sob at the end.). The story is so touching, and that poor tree just gives everything of herself away for the sake of a boy she loves so much. Much like being a parent, really. Maybe this is why I get so emotional?

This book is absolutely terrible and probably the reason we have an entire generation of humans who give and give and give until we have nothing left to give for people who never give anything back and take us for granted. I will absolutely never be reading this to my child. Absolute garbage.
