A different look into a dark time in history. One of the author's biggest points is how powerful words are - and he writes in such a stunningly beautiful way. Such despair and tragedy written in a way that is artistic and flowing but never takes away from the pain of the moment. You feel every letter of every word. Watching Leslie grow from a little girl into a young woman through one of the darkest chapters in the world, you're taken on a journey that will remain with you long after the book is finished.

“Sometimes I imagined how everything looked above those clouds, knowing without question that the sun was blond, and the endless atmosphere as a giant blue eye.”
A great, moving story. Honestly, I felt that it could have been a little shorter, although the length did help us to get to know the characters more. Zusak has a great writing style, and I really enjoyed this book, especially since it left me in tears.

I can't really say what I think about this book.
Words cannot describe.
All I can say is, this is the kind of book that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
Also, it taught me how to insult people in German.

I reread this and still love it. Yes, it is slow going in some parts and the narrator does jump around and "spoil" important parts of the story, but I still found myself hooked all over again. The events the narrator spoils are well written enough that even though you know it's ultimately coming, you aren't really disappointed.
And as silly as it seems to admit that a book can make me cry, this one does. It did the first time I read it and it did again this time too.
