The Intimacy Experiment is a great sequel to The Roommate, I personally enjoyed this story more! You can definitely read this book as a stand-alone but I do think it is enhanced by reading The Roommate first. Naomi is a strong character who knows herself and what she wants while also learning that being vulnerable and relying on others does not make her weak. Rabbi Ethan Cohen is a cinnamon roll of a man who is sweet,  sturdy, and just what’s to love and support his community. These two make a wonderful pair while providing representation of the sex work/education field as well as Judaism.

An excellent follow-up to The Roommate, this explores the challenges inherent in being a strong woman and how a couple can navigate what modern  support (and intimacy) looks like - including not quite getting it right all the time.

The Intimacy Experiment is the second book in the sex positive world Rosie Danan has created, and it was fine. Just fine.

What I found confusing was that Naomi was giving dating advice - to encourage growth in intimacy, but as her attraction to Ethan grew only the physicality of their relationship was intimate. There seemed to be no other tie between them.

I don’t know, it just felt like a book written to say, “hey look, we’re diversifying our characters.” Then rested on that without really fleshing it out.

A rabbi and a sex worker are definitely an interesting pairing. I thought the book had some really great points on the purpose of dating and on relationship in general. I still don't love the original career Naomi (and Josh) had, but Naomi is quite wise and very strong and I always love strong female characters.

Naomi was one of my favorite parts of The Roommate, and I thought her story was really well-executed. I don't come across a lot of nuanced takes on faith and organized religion in romance, so this was a refreshing new perspective. Danan also does a great job incorporating a trope-y structure to their relationship without the MCs relying on it unrealistically.
