At times, an insightful surface-level look into Japan’s criminal underworld, and, at a broader level, Japanese culture from an outsider’s point of view — but I just found the author’s perspective to be so, so unlikeable. Adelstein has big main character energy, and really wants his readers to know how much of a womanizer he is; whenever he talks about women he can’t help but make some sort of passing remark about their appearance.
