I really thought this was a thriller but it was more just an inner monologue about where the survivors are now. Certainly interesting to see their developments which is why I gave it two stars instead of one. The constant switching between timelines was confusing at times as it happened from paragraph to paragraph with no indication other than context clues. Overall would not recommend.

I really disliked this book. It took me ages to get through, mostly because I found it dull and tedious to read and would often find myself dozing off or wanting to distract myself with something more interesting like my phone.

The basic premise is we follow Lex, as an adult, after she has escaped a childhood of extreme abuse and neglect. Her mother has died and she is executor of the estate. We follow as she tracks down her siblings in order to disseminate an inheritance, interspersed with a lot of wordy stories about her childhood. There is a twist on the end, but frankly not enough to incite enthusiasm (even though I can't say I saw it coming - it was unexpected for me, just not overly interesting).

Around page 200 I seriously considered putting this one down, but I skimmed a few pages and then forced myself to continue.

This probably should have been interesting and horrifying; anyone interested in true crime will be captivated by news stories of children rescued from houses of extreme abuse and neglect. Yet the author manages to make it dull and maudlin, slow and plodding, so much so that she dulls the edges of the horror until you're just left bored.

I enjoyed the book until the ending. It seemed hurried,  contrived & was not the twist it was intended to be.

Being a true-crime fan, this book intrigued me as the content is along those lines. It is dark and sad but there was still some positive outcomes for some of the kids. There was a lot of current day/previous time flipping back and forth but it was not hard to follow. The book seemed more like it was written for a movie without the details you typically get with a book. The ending was very ominous and I am not sure what to think. Overall it was good but because of the lack of details I can't give it 5 stars.

Girl A begins with promise and has an interesting premise, however by the middle the plot begins to feel monotonous and getting through the story becomes a slog. The author seems to be going for shock value and I was disappointed to learn the story had been crafted based on events from true crime documentaries. I wonder how the victims would feel about a lawyer working for Google spinning their tale with embellished details for profit
