Amazingly well written (without sounding pretentious I really liked the similies 🫶), but it did feel like a lot was left unresolved by the end (
revenge on Ethan when??
). It was a gripping book in the same way I read morbid news stories: I can't look away because oh my god they did what? I didn't see the
Evie twist coming
, but I kinda wish it had been done differently because
after finding that out I wanted to read back over Lex's conversation with Delilah (where I think I remember Evie being discussed)
to see all the hints I missed but I can't satisfy that itch because I don't wanna read about horrible things happening to children again. So overall, it's a good book and I couldn't put it down. Does it have
well deserved ending
? No. Is a lot of the gripping nature of it down to shock factor and morbid reader curiosity? Yes. Did I enjoy overall? Absolutely.

While this book was interesting I found that it had way too many characters, fluff, and not enough clear conclusions. This book wasn’t exactly the mystery/ thriller that I typically read. It was suspenseful as you wanted to find out how the kids escaped and what exactly happened in their past but I don’t think the writing style clicked with me. Had to restart the book because it didn’t grab me and second time around wasn’t much better.

I loved this book! The only critique I have is the
Evie
reveal, which I thought was shocking, but also quite unrealistic. It did have me go back to check
the others' reactions when the protagonist mentioned Evie in their conversations
, and suddenly, they made a lot more sense. I also had to re-check when the baby boy is named,
because he never ever appears beforehand, so you know exactly what happend to that poor baby
.
