What the hell was that ending?
I was expecting Dark Academia, instead I got some wierd coming of age story about boys I didn’t care about.
I wasn’t aware that this was the book to the movie, so my expectations were definitely too high, but the writing was… Not to sound extreme but just bad. I think it was because it was a translation of an already probably not well written book, but it still totally took me out of the plot.
The constant thirsting after every single girl in the story was pretty disturbing. The only couple I was rooting for was Todd and Neil, andNeil ended up killing himself! I think that was actually the only well written scene. But still, the only thing I could do was laugh, because there was absolutely no emotion in the writing. Sure, it described the characters reactions, but in a way that did not make me feel alongside them at all.
Okay, don’t get me wrong, this wasn’t a bad read. There were definitely parts I enjoyed and (while I am a very „emotional“ reader) it’s not like I was sitting there stone faced the whole time.
I did feel like I knew the characters, and it wasn’t a bad story. I am exited to watch the movie.
I think this could have been a really good book, but the writing and the creepiness towards the women just ruined it.
No, but seriously, what the fuck was that ending??
PS: I recently watched the movie… It’s so good. I mean,Neil‘s death??? I cried!
Worst of all… All the creepy „objectifying women“ scenes weren’t in the movie. And the book was written by a woman. A WOMAN. NANCY. Wth?????
I wonder what her situation was like while writing, was she pressured into including those scenes?
