“If you ever hear a scratching on your door at night, maybe don’t open it, else you might turn your town into a Cryptid Town. Actually, for my sake, please open it.”

The author is super funny, and this book is light-hearted without being speculative. There are descriptions of each cryptid, the encounters, and the outcome (if there was one, such as something being proven a hoax)

Such a fun, unique read.

With the exception of a few culturally questionable inclusions, this book is an absolute delight, and an indispensable guide to some of the weirdest things in the US. If you’re a fan of things like the Atlas Obscura, you should definitely pick this up.

This was a really interesting look at cryptids. I liked the way they were grouped by region. I had a very surface level knowledge of cryptozoology going into this so I enjoyed learning about some new cryptids and their stories. This is the only non fiction cryptid book I’ve read so I don’t know how it stacks up in the genre but I would recommend it to someone looking for a place to start.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC of this work. All opinions in this review are my own.

This was such a great book! I've heard of the big cryptids like Bigfoot, Nessie, and Mothman. But this book covers so many other creatures that are in the US that I've never heard of before. The Puckwudgie was one of my favorites but there were so many! Skunk Ape, Albatwitch, Batsquatch, and Giant Sky Clam were some others that I really liked. This is such a fun, entertaining, and educational read that I would recommend everyone check out.
