i don’t usually add content warnings to my reviews but i felt like i had to with this book..

but it was funny at times? and kind of cringe, but wholesome.

i am aware that butcher and blackbird choose to kill ’bad’ people, often serial killers.. but don’t they realise that they are just as bad?
they seem to think that killing a ’bad’ person is them doing a favor to the world. well they need help

First of all, why did I have to wait over 200 pages for spice? Unacceptable in a dark romance, in my humble opinion. Secondly, there are only a handful of spicy scenes and the majority of those are only moderately spicy. This book was interesting and so weird. I’m annoyed at everyone who freaked the fuck out about the ice cream scene. It was definitely less disgusting than some elements that came to light prior to the ice cream. Still gross but not worth the hype if I say so myself. The book is pretty decent but I wouldn’t categorize it as dark romance cause there’s not enough spice. All in all, a quick and engaging book that’s easy to get through in a few hours.

This book had a premise that hooked me right in, delving into the minds of two vigilante serial killers - count me in. But, I found myself wishing it had taken a different approach. The killers and even the other characters lacked moral conflict. The absence of fear of being caught also detracted from the realism and believability of the story, making it hard to fully immerse myself.

Towards the end, the narrative shifted heavily towards explicit content, which felt more like a vehicle for smut and shock than a deep exploration of the characters. The backstory for the killers felt rushed, leaving me wanting more insight into what made them tick.

The book also relied heavily on well-worn tropes, like "lovers to enemies" and "friends to lovers," which made it feel a bit formulaic. It seemed tailor-made for a TikTok audience, with its quick-paced, trope-heavy storytelling.

Despite these issues, the book was a fast, enjoyable read. The banter between characters was entertaining, and the occasional bursts of gore and absurdity kept me hooked. While it didn't reach the depth I hoped for, it served its purpose as a fun, mindless escape.
