The Disciples are being manipulated by beings older than time. Only Kernel Fleck knows that something is wrong. But he is in the grip of a creature who cares nothing for the fate of humanity. Voices are calling to him from the darkness and he’s powerless to resist. Dark Calling isn't the best of the Demonata books, even though it is still creative with its storyline and where it’s aiming to go. Kernel is on his own a lot in this one, outside the human world and the creepy Demonata lands. I'm still deciding if I liked that weird development and probably will be undecided until I die. It ties into the big bang end of the series and wraps up a lot of plot lines, but it almost feels too large in scope for the writing the handle. Dark Calling just kind of lags. We have this fantastical element introduced of other worlds and leading space aliens and The Old Ones, which should be interesting in itself, but it didn’t feel as grand as it should have. I feel awful for Kernel with his eyes too - this story doesn't shy away from brutalizing its characters. It's expected that through the horrors and trials that Grubbs would become hard and jaded, but he's a little more one-dimensional now and I can't bond as much with him. Kernel is still a favorite but I feel frustrated when he's on page - I kind of wish he could one-up Grubbs for a second. Bec is sort of just there as part of the powerful Kah-Gash, until a twisted end surprise with her that I actually enjoyed and appreciated. Overall, I think younger readers will still enjoy this series despite being so late and close to the finale.

I LOVE THIS SERIES! Each book is written by different main characters that will be tied together for a greater purpose at some point! This book was full of twists and an amazing plot for the characters!

Dark Calling is the penultimate book in The Demonata series and… well, it’s pretty different from the previous installments. I’m looking forward to seeing how this series ends!

Another good addition to the saga, with now just one book remaining things are really heating up.

This book focuses on Kernel this time and, again, a little over half of it takes place during round-abouts the same time period as the last two books - Death's Shadow and Wolf Island - as the three narrators (Grubbs, Kernel and Bec) were separated for a time.
So for the first half or so we see what Kernel was up to while Bec was on the ship and Grubbs was hanging with wolves - and it was some trippy shit, seriously - and for the rest of it, the timeline finally begins to progress again, rather intensely actually.

While Grubbs will always be my fave, I do have a soft spot for Kernel and enjoy reading his story. We also get a lot of answers and explanations for things in this book.

An amazing novel, just like the others! Things are really starting to take drastic and shocking turns! I can't believe most of the things that happened in this novel! I had some guesses of what would happen and it didn't even come close! A truly amazing read, it’s coming close to the end and things are starting to get really suspicious amongst the kah-kash hosts. The story is revealed about how the universe started with the demons and the Old Creatures. Truly was shocking. Never thought it would have anything to do with chess boards! It really makes you think of our real world and tie it in with the story. You can see these things happening - though thank god there are now demons roaming out earth! That would be a total nightmare!

A lot of the events are horrific and I can’t imagine it happening anywhere in the world but this story – more than the others – really makes you think about our own planet and what would really happen if this were to happen to us. Crazy and brilliant this story was! Completely and utterly brilliant. I loved this story to bits! Hell, I love the whole series!
