Why is every contemporary fantasy written like this now? “I saw the [generic gore], [adverb] [adjective]. I felt the [blood, sweat, tears, etc] on my face, [adverb], [adjective]. I had several bodily sensations designed specifically to make you cringe. Profound pull-quote that would have killed on 2016 Tumblr.”
On top of needing at least 200 more pages to contextualize this, the writing was so bogged down in itself that very little was actually said to make me care about the characters. Not the worst, but not super enjoyable or substantive.

I really wanted to like this, but I found her use of super flowery verbiage very distracting and unnecessary.  It took me out of the story a lot.  Not to say that it wasn't a good concept, it was actually great, but the story telling was drawn out way too much for my liking.  I think I'll try to read it again, maybe I'll appreciate it more now that I can see what the writer was trying to do.
