Recommendation sent to my math teacher sister:

I have a cutie little book recommendation for you!!! It’s about math! It’s called the Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawo and it is so beautiful and captivating. It’s a slice of life novella narrated by a kind and compassionate Housekeeper who goes to help an older man who was a very gifted mathematician. The Professor suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident and as a result his memory resets every 80 minutes. Each day they meet for seemingly the first time and they both find comfort and understanding in teaching and learning and questioning mathematics.  It’s soooo very sweet and I think you will like it even more because you already have an appreciation for math. It’s a classic in Japanese literature. 4.25 / 5

Reads like a memoir, but fictional. Reflecting mixed in with the recounting, and time sometimes skips ahead before returning to the "present" moment of the scene. Great for fans of math, baseball, or just of deeply personal relationships.
