Loved it! Loved the structure of a fictional ‘I’ uncovering how to share her thoughts and feelings on “women and fiction”. Her insights—many still dishearteningly applicable to modern day—gave me a lot to chew on and her suppositions regarding the emotional history of key female authors through time left me feeling inspired … and not a little ridiculous for ever feeling intimidated about how, when, what, and why to write. Above all though, I loved the poetic elegance of Woolf’s writing style. Not flowery or overly formal, just true and crisp and beautiful. It’s enough to wonder why more non-fiction isn’t as artfully engaging.

This was an interesting but challenging read. I'm glad that I have read it but I feel some of it went over my head while some parts were easier to understand. It feels really timeless and it still feels important over 90 years later.

I think a newly introduced to feminism would find it brilliant, but I found it quite boring and I am so mad at myself for it. Would have loved to study it in class.

If there’s any writer who makes me want to write, it’s Virginia Woolf.
