I wanted to love this books so bad! The magical dessert and Jin (genies)!!!! But personally I couldn’t get over the slower pacing, and no real trajectory. I did think there was good details in the story that were endearing but not enough to tempt me to read the sequel especially with my never ending TBR.

I’ve decided Middle Eastern fantasy is one of my favorites. The folklore of the Jinn and the different variations it takes, depending on each author’s perspective, is always fun and engaging.
This book gave me City of Brass vibes. One thing I loved about it was that there is no clear romantic arc. There might be a hint of one to come, but it was really about a group of people who come to care for each other. And that’s it. I don’t know why, but I’m kind of getting tired of unnecessary love triangles.
I loved this book and I can’t wait for the next one.

Just excellent!! A great, epic tale with great characters, and a very interesting world and magic. I loved the Arabian landscape of it too. Can't wait for the next book!
