Really impressed by the scope of this book—weaving together environmental racism, misogyny/misogynoir, classism, US imperialism, the multitudes of violence the US requires domestically, white supremacy, settler colonial reactionaries, and the height of high-profile serial killers—super fascinating.

I wanted to like this book; however, it was extremely repetitive and way too graphic for my taste. I also wish the author had left out a good portion of the book about her childhood.

It was an odd mix of autobiography, history, and true crime. I think it could have been at least 100 pages shorter; it was just trying to be too many different books at once.

Though I did appreciate the premise of how the age of serial killers was caused by toxic pollution, and how we may have another one if such pollution is allowed to come back.

   Overall, just meh.

Narrator Rating: 3.0 stars
The narrator was okay, but nothing special.

I'm glad to finally know why my Tacoma-raised dad is batshit and mean (spoiler: heavy metals), but I could've done with roughly 150 fewer pages devoted to describing real-life rape, torture, murder, and necrophilia in depth. A well-researched read that would be more groundbreaking if it were less obsessively lurid.
