The writing was a bit too flowery for me, but I still find this book intriguing so I might pick it back up again in the future.

3.5 stars rounded up! This book had absolutely stunning writing! It did give me gothic atmosphere which I loved and it was unique spin on fairytales. Personally the story itself was enjoyable but not something I was in love with. I still recommend this unique story!

Whew, I needed a lot of help understanding what was going on this book, so thank you to my bookclub for helping me in my reading journey. Although I thought the writing style was beautiful and lyrical (and amazing for a debut!), and the magical references thrown in the story were interesting, I was mostly confused by the plot and wanted even more magic. Having both a male and female narrator in the audiobook version was a thoughtful addition-they both did a great job portraying The Bridegroom and Azure. Overall, I still am glad to have experienced this book.

4.5/5: honestly I didn’t like this book at the beginning. It was hard to understand what was going on as each character crafts their own vision of the world with magic and veils. However, I loved the change of perspectives and I’m not sure I ever saw the ending even as my mind was racing to figure out what happened. I also really enjoyed the narrators, which definitely can make or break a boom for me!
