This is a collection of stories and interviews about Black farmers. It shows both the successes and trials of current farmers and the racist obstacles that have kept Black people from owning land and farming in the past. I saw someone comment recently that, while sure understood the white privilege before the Depression, after that tragedy everyone was on equal ground. This repeated evidence of the USDA working to take land out of the hands of Black farmers should be enough to convince someone.

Informative and insightful collection of accounts about African American farming. It’s inspiring how folks have overcome the barriers and injustices, but also very enraging that things have been and are so unjust.

I loved all the voices in this book and what they had to say about farming, history, culture and race. There is an excellent notes page with good research and I bulked up my future reading list.
I will purchase this for my rural high school library.

This book wasn’t always the easiest to get through, it is dense with information. But the information is such an honor to be able to read. Natalie Baszile is a great story teller and knitter of others stories. This was a huge accomplishment to pull off, I’m very impressed and appreciative of the author for her commitment to this.
