I enjoyed this much more than the first, but I still didn't like it. I found it boring nearly all the way through and the way the chapters kept ending with a very ominous warning of the future reminded me why I felt the first book was immature and badly written. I gave Darren Shan a second chance and can now say that I absolutely hate his writing style and this series is definitely not going to be continued.

I really thought of taking a star away because there was no "monkey girl" at the Cirque, but then I added a star back because only Darren Shan would do something like that
Spoiler (no I am not even putting in a spoiler, you'll just have to read the book to find out what he did)
to what appeared to be a main character in the story arc. And in a children's book!

Pulpy and enjoyable, but not especially memorable.
