I must have read this as a teenager. I own the book, but it doesn't look read, so maybe I only read it once. None of it seemed familiar to me at all.
The story was good, there seemed less 'crap' than the previous book. We learn more about the Taltos and Anne has weaved in a pile of historical information that sounds believable.
I still don't like how she describes young girls and how beauty seems to be everything. The ending wasn't how I would have written it. Ash tells his story and explains how old he is and seems to be civilised and in control, but he is reduced to an animal in the end. Maybe that was the point. In the end, they are just children.

this was. i. i don't. anne. what is going on. the thread is so wildly lost. there's so much going on. the taltos. the taltos. the TALTOS. the history of the taltos. the deep lore. the science. the new taltos. SO much about the taltos. and the witches don't really do? witch things anymore i guess? it's really all about the taltos now. and people being ride-or-die for each other in seconds. and kidnapping each other. and being so, so peculiar. this book was, perhaps, not for me. anne you are TRIPPING and tripping HARD. this was just wild.
