I'm going, to be honest, I went into this book begrudgingly. I felt that Archivist Wasp had a perfectly good ending and that there was no reason for the story to continue. But a couple chapters into Latchkey, I was so glad that the author had decided to continue Wasp's and the ghost's story because there is still SO much we didn't know about the Before world and the Latchkey Operation. I liked this book so much better than the first one. Perhaps this is because of the constant pull of the desire to understand the what, why and how behind the Latchkey ghosts and Wasp's abilities.

Reaching the end of this book, we still don't have a lot of answers (which is driving me crazy by the way) but in a way, I don't mind it. Latchkey was able to make this series one of my favorites and I'm so glad I allowed myself to be immersed in this world. It's so original and refreshing and I'd never encountered anything like it before. Highly recommend!!!

*** Just wanted to add that's been hours since I've finished this book and I still can't stop thinking about it. It's been such a long time since a book had that effect on me. I have so so SO much love for these characters and the author!!!!

What a great follow up to Archivist Wasp! I couldn't put it down. This may be the best second in a series and back story fill in book I've ever read. It's such an interesting take on a post-apocalyptic world, and it seems so believable even though it's totally fantastic.

This book was fine, but I felt like it didn’t have enough answers. I liked it okay, but Firebreak (which is a sort-of prequel to the Archivist Wasp series) is better and you get more answers. I would recommend reading that instead.

I was in a weird place when I read this.

(More and more I realise that loving a book is more about the synchronicity of the delusions of the writer and the reader, rather than an objective measure of a books worth.

Unless its a shite book, that is something you can tell).

So this was good book, but I don't know if it was a great book.

Archivist Wasp was life-changing - this wasn't.

But its clearly a life-changing universe and the problem might have been me - so I seriously recommend reading Latchkey anyway.

This was amazing. Wrenching, satisfying, brutal, compassionate, hopeful, glorious.

(Also it is SO REFRESHING to read a book containing absolutely no romance.)

Archivist Wasp was a book that, in my opinion, didn’t necessarily need a sequel, but I’m so glad that it has one. While I think Archivist Wasp was better, I somewhat doubt that something could live up to that at all- and judging the book on its own merits and on how it does as a sequel instead of trying to compare it, this is still a solid 5/5 star book. Latchkey went into the aftereffects of Archivist Wasp, showing what the ex-upstarts have built after their society was destroyed.
The plot was easy to get invested in so quickly and it was nice finding out more about the world (and, by extension, the Latchkey project). I also loved getting to see more of Foster and the Ghost, and the thing with the ghosts of the old Latchkey members worked so well for this- especially with what happens with them near the end. I also really liked seeing more of Sairy- she’s an incredibly interesting and tragic character, and getting to see more about her than we got in the first book was really great. The writing style was great, the plot was great, and the characters were phenomenal.
Without saying too much, the end of this book (and, honestly, the last fourth-ish in general) devastated me. I really, really loved this book overall, and Nicole Kornher-Stace is definitely becoming one of my favorite authors.
