You are my sunshine, my only sunshine...

Now, I really liked this story, it was entertaining and kept me guessing, who did it? Who pushed Caily, what secrets are brewing in this supposedly happy family?

Is there such a thing as too many plot twists? I liked how it all came together but at one point it felt overdone. So many revelations in those last few chapter left me with my head spinning.

One small point is that I didn't like how some of the chapters ended with a sentence and then the next chapter begins with the same sentance.

Regardless of that, I really did enjoy this book.

Pretty good. But didn't find main characters too compelling.
Also I hate when books feel the need to have a year later epilogue that serves no purpose. Just end the book when someone is arrested or taken away

This book has an absolutely gripping start and it's definitely a page turner. But about half to three-quarters through, I stopped believing in it, I'm afraid - which was entirely due to the extraordinary amount of traumas and plot twists the author crams in for no real reason when she absolutely didn't have to. You name a trauma and it's in there: drugs, teenage pregnancy, possible child abuse, gangsters(!), kidnapping, destructive fire, lost love, split families, life-changing accidents, near death experiences and so on. Honestly, I was exhausted. This is a good author (usually) and one I follow - but please, just keep the plot-lines down to two or three issues next time, if only for this reader's sanity!

Thanks to netgalley for the chance to read this book.

Kate is turning 40 and feels very lucky as she celebrates her birthday at a surprise party with her friends and family. Hours later her life changes forever when her daughter Caily is discovered unconscious under a bridge when she should have been at school, Caily is in a coma and the police are struggling to find out what happened but don’t believe it was an accident. As the investigation continues it becomes clear that everyone in her family were not where they said they were. Someone doesn’t want Caily to wake up, will she be safe in the hospital or will someone take action to prevent the truth getting out.

A solid book if you’re looking for a slow burn suspense filled with familial tensions, generational secrets, and a lot of emotional intrigue. There are several plot lines that converged into a pretty satisfying finale. Certainly worth recommending to fans of the genre, but expect no showstopper.
