Another absolute banger from Minnie Darke, it nearly brought me to tears! She has well and truly solidified herself as one of my favourite authors!! She can do no wrong in the realm of romance to me!!
I am always a sucker for a story that is able to weave together such seemingly independent and interesting storylines. Even with the main focus eventually (particularly the back half of the book) being on Arie and Evie, I found myself rooting for the both of them as they worked through what they could in such a comparatively brief moment in the book. Even with them being the focus, I was still invested in the other characters and their storylines, even if I was confused at each of their introductions! (To be fair, that's fully just a skill issue, I came around eventually, I just needed a moment to catch up and remember character traits)
I wasn't prepared for the grief aspect of this to hit so hard, and while I think I am experiencing a bit of a wedding/engagement fatigue (everyone around me is getting married rn and I just keep picking up books with weddings and engagements, it's crazy), I think this one was worked into the story particularly well.
I also fully didn't expect them to get together after the wedding, and I do think it was a bit rushed but it definitely added to the higher tension of them not being able to talk before Evie left the next morning. Again, I think it was just a next level big-brain move by Minnie Darke to add to the complexity of their relationship. It just made it all the more exciting and heart-breaking.
All in all, I wasn't expecting to give this such a high rating in the end but I was absolutely won over. The writing it witty and engaging, the cast of characters is well thought out and I found myself loving them (or at least caring for them), even if I didn't always agree with their choices. Stunning!

Beautiful. Lyrical. Wonderful piecing together of multiple stories in multiple locations. Didn't want to stop reading it.
An exceptional novel all on its own, but also an inspiring read for romance writers everywhere. Darke weaves characters and stories together like with masterful cleverness, giving you a sense of connectedness, and providing the perfect *coda* in the end. Delighted.
When I close my eyes and listen to music, I mean really stop and listen to music...when I let the sounds wash over and into me...when I allow the instruments to strum and stroke the most delicate parts of my soul...I am moved in inexplicable ways.
As a lover of words, I must admit, there are times when words do not suffice. Only the quiver of a note could vibrate and make meaning in the atoms of one's spirit.
Australian author, Minnie Darke, captures this phenomena in her novel of lost and found love across many instruments, across many continents, and across many forms of love. This story reminds us during a time when words so easily build and break, that a return to music can be the return to love we need.
Feelings While Reading
-Reminiscence of all the types of deep loves I've felt
-Melancholy in recognizing a deep sense of loneliness I've once felt
-A desire to play and feel music
-A desire to purchase and learn to play the poet
-Encouragement to begin chasing my love and writing again

Oh. MY. Heavens.
This book. This story.
This story is written in a way that it tears out the readers' hearts and then stomps on them but as the story goes along healing comes. What can I even say about this story except that it is beautifully written in a way that makes me believe the author has experienced a sudden loss to be able to so accurately describe so much of that type of loss.
I had never heard of Minnie Drake before and could not tell you if she had written 20 books or if this was her first. But I can tell you after reading The Lost Love Song that I will be one of her faithful followers.
The Lost Love Song will definitely be on my favorite list of 2020 and even of all-time.
Note: This could be a trigger for someone who has had a sudden loss in their life.

Still dealing emotionally with the death of a love one myself this book hit a little different, which could have affected how I rated the book. I found it to be a sweet and touching book about moving forward, finding ways to bend what might be broken and what is essentially the power of music.
It's been a while since I cried over a book, but it been a while that a book truly touched and moved me. It interweaves between the main story and smaller side stories that tie together in the end in what feels in a way as the musical version of the game telephone, we follow a song as it travels across the globe being transformed by all who touches it.
With everything that is going on in the world, this was a great escape that also allowed me mull over life and other things.

I loved this book for the love, hope and sense of second chances that is portrayed. Arie faces life after a tragedy, in which his concert pianist wife is killed in a car crash. Before the crash, she composed a song that will make its way through the major and minor characters in the book. Evie travels and has not been able to commit to any person or job, except for her poetry. In between the story of Arie and Evie, there are interludes which continue the journey of the song. Original and well written, I highly recommend this book and thank Edelweiss for the ARC.

Beautifully done, bittersweet and affirming. More contemporary fiction with strong romance threads. A few times I thought some story strands might have been too many but were more vignette. Poetic at points, with commissioned poetry for MC Evie. Glad for the chiefly Australia setting. Nice touch all Round.
