The first 3/4 or more was incredibly boring, I won’t lie. I was honestly worried it would be a 2 star or less… but alas, SJM and her last 100 pages saved the day.

The reason I felt so bored during a lot of it was because of how the plot very largely felt like set up for the remaining 5 books- which if find and almost expected. So, even though this wasn’t my favourite book so far, it was understandable and I didn’t let it “ruin” the series for me.

Nehemia’s death absolutely killed me. I was so sad, and I’m going to miss her so much. She was such a great character.

Also,I feel so bad for Dorian, he. Just be so stressed out. His dad is evil, he has magic and thinks his dad is going to kill him for it, he loves a woman who doesn’t love him back, and he thinks his bestie is now a dick. Poor guy can’t get a break.

THANK GOD FLEEFOOT IS FINE, I WOULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED IF FLEEFOOT DIED.

I can’t wait to start heir of fire, I’m really enjoying the series. And I also am not minding the lack of romance AT ALL, which is fantastic.

I loved the continuation of the Throne of Glass series, this book was just a deepening of an already deep story.
Learning more about Caelena, Chaol, Dorian, and Nehemia, there was so much to take in, I found the character development to be strong. I was so genuinely scared sometimes when reading I had to set the book down lol
The plot continued to thicken as well in a medium-paced way, there’s a bit of lax when it comes to building up the “love triangle” and then adding to the mystery. The ending surprised me, I really didn’t see it coming but I’m kinda dull and don’t try to figure books out cause I like the surprise.
10/10 read. Would recommend. You’ll love it.

This book is sooo much better than the first one. I was so close to DNFing Throne of Glass when it was dragging in the middle, but I heard that the series got really good from
book 3 on, so I stuck it out. Now that I’ve read this book, the first one feels almost unnecessary. I know a lot of the information in book 1 was critical for book 2, but it made Throne of Glass almost feel like it was all a set up for the main story, and that’s why it was so tough to get through for me. Crown of Midnight had so much more action, and the pieces of the story started to come together in ways that kept me engaged. Either way, I’m much more intrigued by the overall plot now, and I’m looking forward to the next one!

This series is really shaping up to be something special. I think the first book works better as a cohesive story, and this one feels like setup for a larger narrative, and not as cohesive as a stand alone book, but it was still an enjoyable read.

It suffers from pacing issues and is very boring and plot laden at times. The romance of this book is not as good as the first one, but that’s ok, because not every book has to be romantic.

I liked getting to know the characters a little more. I liked the reveal at the end, but honestly, it just makes me mad that we had to spend so much time being bait-and-switched by the author to in the name of worldbuilding rather than start in the faerie realm and have the actual story play out!

Still!

I’m looking forward to book three!

What a surprise. I  enjoyed this. And was really moved by the brief twist. Poignant sadness. The romance midway was charming. It left me wanting more and to chase the next book in this series.
