Definitely a gripping plot! The mystery kept me hooked. The romance was fun but I know never to hope for our dear Celaena.

Unsure on the rating for now - could be between 3.25-4.25 for many reasons.

I think the writing has improved from the first book, but I think the exploration of relationships has worsened slightly. Less nuance, more black and white (time and place I’d say) and things tend to transform back and forth which is a little frustrating as a reader. However, love Chaol and Celaena (yes I’ll carry on with that for now).

I do believe the world building has been very subtly effective. It doesn’t feel like I’ve had pages of info dumps and that I’ve been overwhelmed at any points. It’s been done gradually, and considering the big plot twist at the end, I’m pleased because things are about to explode!

I did see the plot twist coming - call it intuition. I knew ‘Aelin’ was a character from random things on social media, and I just assumed that they might become a POV in the future, but the more the name got mentioned and the more mysterious Celaena turned out to be, it all started falling into place.

Chaol and Dorian just seem to be two lovely MMCs. Here for the magic and here for the yearning. Always.

An enjoyable sequel to Throne of Glass. I’m starting to like the characters more as the story unfolds and the relationships and backstories develop.

i think it would have done me better to relisten to throne of glass before trying to read crown of midnight because the time between the two was so long. however, using libby i wasn’t sure how long i would have to wait for throne of glass and wasn’t keen on letting go of my hold on crown of midnight to go back. i’m still a wee bit lost tho LOL.

i also listen to these so i don’t know how to spell their names so here i will shorten them to C for our kings champions, Cael (Kale), Dorian, and Naheemia and just pray that it’s close enough.

C is doing the kings dirty work for him as his champion and assassin. she is tasked with assassinating someone she knew from her childhood who is supposedly part of a growing rebel movement against the king. C knows the king is corrupt and she knows there are secrets that are in the castle that are dangerous and looming. princess naheemja is pressuring her to join the rebel movement and protect the people of her country who are enslaved. C knows what the right thing to do is, but she doesn’t want to get caught up in it. but when tragedy strikes… will she have a choice?

3.5 🌟 Really good. Better than the first as the story has more depth to it now and I’m starting to like the characters more. The part when Celaena was fighting the monster for aaaaages was a bit boring but the rest moved at quite a fast pace. So glad she killed Archer as I was so annoyed when I thought she was going to left him live AGAIN. Excited for the next
