!!!Spoilers ahead!!!

I knew from the first time when Aelin was mentioned that it was Celena. I did expect it to happen and I liked how it was revealed at the end.

However, I still don't get what Celena sees in Chaol. Dorian is right there!!! Or am I missing something? I have absolutely no clue what's so interesting about Chaol... someone please explain without spoilers for the coming books.

Anyway, I am glad Celena is gone from both of them and hopefully she will find someone else on this new continent or no one at all because she is better off without these man who only cause her trouble lol.

Also, RIP Nehemia.

This was a really solid middle book of a series, it progressed the plot in a way that was important to the series overall and had its own contained plot line as well as some interesting plot twists going along. My one complaint is that the romance plot has been getting a bit repetitive as the series goes on but everything else is great. I love the world and the main character.

Definitely better than the first book. The characters are more likeable but they remain pretty flat. The pace is fairly slow and the plot doesn't really get going until the last third of the book.

This book is hard for me to rate because I've let it linger for a bit before actually reviewing it and it is so deeply forgettable. There was one larger chunk of the book that I enjoyed and it was after a major event occurs and our main character begins to go a bit unhinged with her rage and grief. Loved this part of the story for sure, but the overwhelming majority of the book ebbed and flowed into portions I truly could not have given a shit about. And the reveal at the end of the book is hard for me to review as well because if I'd read this series as it was coming out I'm sure it would have been shocking and intriguing but as someone who was way late to the party I already knew about this plot point and found it to be very meh. I'm going to continue reading the series and see how I feel after the next book before deciding if I'm going to continue on. I think that my overall feelings on the first two books so far is that these books definitely aren't bad but I'm not loving them by any means either. So basically just kind of mediocre for me.
