I like this series better than the ACOTAR series so far, because the main character isn’t as whiny and the unrealistic, overbearing love tri/quad-rangle isn’t as bad… yet. There are moments that make me cringe, times when nothing at all is happening of any importance, and repetitive descriptions (sometimes even in the same paragraph). The *secretive* riddles are easily deciphered the moment they’re read and the plot twists are blazingly foreshadowed.

I liked this one more than the first. Very engaging, tho I didn't quite buy the sudden romance w *you know who* but had fun with it anyway. Maas somehow makes very predictable twists still fun to uncover. The characters were also well developed in this one.

This is my second time reading this book. Still love it. That last chapter - chefs kiss. There are two things that bother me though…
1st. Mort is literally useless. He could have not existed in this book, and nothing would change. I don’t get the point of him. 2nd. I felt like Celaena should’ve been more upset about finding out Nehemia betrayed her all that time. It doesn’t feel like it fits her character to just look past that and still hold all the love for her.
Cannot wait for the next one.

wow, this book did *not* disappoint! id prefer this book to the first in the series, and now there is no way i wont be finishing the rest of the books in 2021, im shamelessly hooked.

im so heartbroken for Nehemia though, why did SJM do... that? i actually think it moved along the plot really well but id really developed feelings for her. gahh

Original Star Rating: 5 ★

Reread: Despite dropping in stars I still really like this book. I think the drop in stars can be due to having read more books and different kinds of books since my original read, but also knowing the series now. Because of that certain aspects which I know I was surprised and thought were well done the first time makes me instead think what else could have happened and if it would have changed the overall story for in large or small ways.

I still very much love the characters in this series. I admit they have some bias but I do think they are interestingly created. They have a lot of nuances that feel characters lack in ACOTAR and CC that makes them fair more interesting to me. They have proper flaws (not just the flaw that you work too hard when asked what is a weakness in a job interview) but something that can annoy you as the reader but it is because they feel real and as such are not flawless.
The overall story I felt was a little weak but this is a bridging book of the series from Throne of Glass to Heir of Fire/the rest of the series. It has to build up what we will see for the rest of the series so instead it doesn't feel like much happens in the book and a lot does at the same time. I do like the sections we get where we see consequences for actions in the word and I wish we had these pieces in the other series because it bring so much life to the world.
