I thought I would like this book but I LOVED it. MLP's writing is poetry; every letter is filled with imagery that makes you feel like you are experiencing her life with her. I admire how deeply she lives her life and with how much she shares with her readers. And the device of telling her story through letters is wonderful.
The actress writes letters to real and hypothetical men she's encountered who have made her who she is today. She paints awesome pictures of people, places, and time periods in her life with a stream of consciousness style of writing. The book starts out strong with letters to her dad and grandfather, which I loved. But the stories got weirder, lost me somewhere in the middle, and I ended up skimming the rest of the book. I think it was a unique way to write a memoir, and she's a surprisingly good writer, but it just wasn't my thing.

Decent book. I truly enjoyed some chapters, and I was pleasantly surprised by the writing style. There were a few parts where it felt a bit too forced, but that's okay. I'm glad I read it.
Her dad seems like a good dude, but after "Dear Uncle" and my Google search, I couldn't hang with her anymore.
