It's hard to imagine how I would feel about this book were I not an unrepentant Star Wars: Rebels fan. Kanan Jarrus is an iconic chracter beloved by any fans of the show. His arc is among the best written across the universe but there are vital question marks that precede the events of the animated series. This comics series seeks to address some of these and shows us a new facet of Caleb Dume along the way.

The comic does a good job in quickly establishing a recognisable padawan persona for young Caleb Dume. The trauma from the execution of Order 66 has been portrayed elsewhere, and in some places I'd argue more successfully, however how the series handles it feels fitting for the character we know. There are interesting parallels you can draw between Jarrus from this series and baby Bridger from the show that I think makes for an even more amusing start to their Master-Padawan relationship. I enjoyed how the end of the second volume played with this.

It has been a longstanding frustration of mine that we haven't seen more of Master Depa Billaba in Star Wars and we finally get it! I enjoyed the way she was written in this a great deal and she gets a good arc worthy of such a historically important Jedi. The extended cast of the collection provide a lot of charm and easy laughs. I love smuggler crews and this might just be among the most loveable of them.

There are a lot of books written under the Star Wars title that I feel are written simply for the sake of it. This one feels different and is brilliantly executed. The art plays well against the backdrop of animation we have for Kanan. Overall, one of the better comics we've seen with the Star Wars universe.

I enjoyed this! I'm halfway through season 3 of STAR WARS: REBELS and I've been meaning to pick up the Kanan comics for a while, finally got to them on Marvel Unlimited.

Much like a lot of the Star Wars comics, it isn't outstanding, but it was a fun romp and some interesting background - I really liked Kanan's master, Billaba, and it was neat seeing another perspective going through Order 66 as a survivor padawan a-la Fallen Order.

Kanan already feels like probably the most fleshed out and interesting character in the show, so having a bit more story of his past was good - his bounty hunter mate Janus is a little samey samey with every other bounty hunter character in Star Wars.

Anyway. Quick enjoyable read to keep my Star Wars buzz going.

The cover is beautiful, only one problem: where’s Chopper?

There’s no way I can give an unbiased review— I love Kanan too much. The duo of li’l Caleb and Depa Billaba is priceless. I appreciate seeing the rest of Phoenix squadron, too. Comics Ezra is so adorable! (Sorry Ezra, but it’s true.) I need more comics about Phoenix Squadron, goddamnit!

I bought this after the Star Wars Rebels finale mostly because I was full of emotion. I don't read a ton of graphic novels, and especially not Star Wars graphic novels. So, keep that in mind as I have no idea how to review this book.

I wish I hadn't waited so long to dive into this! But, it did fill the hole in my heart left by Star Wars Rebels and it kind of made me less sad about that damn ending. The art in this is beautiful, with a ton of full-page illustrations that made my eyes so happy. It was fun to read more about Kanan, and this tied in so nicely with his story line training Ezra in the show. I especially enjoyed the bits about his Master, Depa Billaba, who is also super-cool.

So, basically, if you like Star Wars Rebels this is a must read!

Surprisingly good. Full of great new side characters and the occasional cameo of familiar favorites. Had a bit of trouble following the action sometimes, and the story did jump around a bit, but that wasn’t too hard to comprehend. Only real negative thing about it was the phrase “don’t call me kid” was said by a kid about 20 times throughout the story. Actual children saying this has always been a pet peeve of mine, and in this case it‘s overkill. We get it.

I have trouble with comic books, and I read this really fast to get it returned to library. But it was nice to get some back story.
