Ummm what the hell is this book only bloody part 1!?!??!
Uuurrrgggg I do not wanna wait for more book! I want them not to have a cliffhanger! Especially this one.
I gotta admit I did quite enjoy the book. I feel like Maddox and Marcella needed to have a few more actual conversations and just like time together to really cement their relationship but I did really feel that Maddox was in love with her. I didn’t feel it as strongly from her tho, but there was still love and lust there. I would have also liked it a little more if Maddox had been able to ask Marcella to go to such extreme lengths to prove herself to him. Or even just any lengths really. The relationship felt a little one sided tbh.
I was honestly a little worried about this book, since the last book she released (twisted craving) I couldn’t even finish. Hell I barely even started it. It turns out I just don’t really give a shit about adamo, which sucks cos I remembering liking him a lot. However this book was a lot better. Much more like the first couple of books in the bound by series. I really like Marcella and I wished we’d seen a little bit more of her. And I did really like Maddox too. It really sucked that he basically had no power at all in him club tho, and that his club was super gross. I did also like that there was a lot more mafia/MC type stuff in this book. It felt less like every other romance novel and more like what it should be. I just wish some of the violence that had occurred had either been from the two mains or for their benefit, if that makes sense. It felt like both of them were more victims of their world rather then leaders of it.
While the ending was unsatisfactory because of the cliffhanger and like the implication of another book instead of moving on to the other kids stories, which I’m desperate for, I do have a wonderful imagine of Maddox and Marcella riding off into the sunset together which I will keep close to my heart while waiting for the next book. Also I swear to god if the next book isn’t them being sexy and bad together then I don’t even want it. Like if it takes the whole book for them to be together then like legit don’t even want to pretend to read it.

This book also makes me think of arianna grandes music video for into you. Like that video is what I want the second book to be. It better be bloody amazing for me to accept anything else!

I was really nervous to read this book because of the plot but my curiosity won the battle and I just ended reading it all at once (as I did with all Cora's books). I didn't have big expectations and here it goes my review (a VERY long review):
Firstly, for me, the best part of the book is Marcella's personality. I love that she isn't just a stereotyped bad girl or just a spoiled and futile princess; she has dreams, ambitions and is very smart and strong and the depth of her character is very crucial. In contrast, I felt like Maddox didn't had the same construction and his character was much more superficial, specially because his only and one thought was Luca.
Honestly, I really hate the kidnapping plot in general and in this book it was no different. It was hard to read the scenes of Marcella being humiliated and hurt by the MC and I was so scared for what else they would do. My heart was pounding in the part where Earl cut her ear. The "salvation" (with much necessary quotation marks) was the fact that Maddox never wanted to hurt Marcella in any way, but YET she got hurt both physically and mentally and he waited forever to realise that his MC was rotten to the core and Marcella was in danger with them.
Another thing that bothered me was the way their relationship was developed. I felt like the lines between "He/she is the enemy, I'm gonna seduce her for advantage" and "I love you and would die for you" were very abrupt and there were lots of terrible moments (like the way she lost part of the ear one night and was having sex with Maddox like nothing was wrong in the next morning). I really hope this changes in the next book.
Last but not least, I need to talk about the Vitiellos. Even with not many scenes, we can see how deeply they care about each other and the faith Marcella had in her father was amazing. I was glad to see Luca being such a good father and actually letting Marcella gets involved with the Famiglia business (another thing I want to be more explored). And let's talk about the way Amo was ready to give his position of next capo to his sister even if he was prepared for it his whole life (their relation is everything). I'm ready to see the Vitiello siblings prosper and rule New York fully (and if course, seeing Amo all grown up made me more anxious for his and Greta's book).
In general, it was a okay reading with ups and downs and nothing more. Let's wait for part II.

description

By Sin I Rise is the story of Marcella and Maddox. Marcella is Luca and Aria's daughter. Maddox is the son of the former president of the New Jersey chapter of the Tartarus MC. Luca killed Maddox's father so he kidnaps Marcella so he can use her to take revenge. This is an enemies-to-lovers romance, I usually am not a big fan of the kidnapping trope, but really thought it worked well in this book. The main reason for this was because Marcella was strong and didn't let the enemy get to her while she was their captive. She kept her composure and did her best to not let them get to her. Maddox has one thing on his mind and that his revenge. However, slowly he sees reason when things happen to Marcella done by the members of his MC. He struggles with his need for revenge and his growing feelings for Marcella. But what will weigh heavier on his conscience? You'll have to read and see.

As you can read in the title this is part one, so it will leave you a bit hanging in the end. But personally I didn't find it to have an extreme cliffhanger ending. I was totally okay with how the author ended the story and it makes me excited to see what will happen next. Cora is just such an amazing author and she is one of the best in the mafia romance genre. Her characters are strong and unique and she makes it easy to connect with them. The relationship between Maddox and Marcella had a very organic feel in my opinion, it didn't feel rushed or forced. The writing was great and very easy to read. I loved reuniting with previous characters and getting a quick glance of how they are doing. By Sin I Rise is another great mafia romance and I look forward to part two.

BY SIN I RISE
This is written in two instalments parts one and two. I just loved all of her other books and believe me they are amazing and this one is no different. I loved it. It is a kidnapping romance but still loved it.

The story is about Luca and Aria’s daughter, yep that’s right it is about Marcella and Marcella is so different from her mother. She is this badass independent character and I absolutely love her. On the other hand, Maddox is a biker looking for vengeance from Luca and that’s why he ends up kidnapping Marcella. Hence, the story progresses.

Although I didn’t love the Maddox, I didn’t hate him either. Characters had something different about them from the earlier generation. This generation is shown with more ease and freedom. I guess mafia rules also change with time. And Luca is shown as the best dad anyone can ask for. I loved the storytelling and the whole plot. It was some way different from the usual mafia, making it a good read for me. I would like to recommend it but only if you are looking for a strong independent mafia woman.

I’m unsure on how I feel about this book.

I loved Marcella and how much of a bad ass Bitch she was.

The only character along with Serafina who has a backbone, except I find Marcella to be slightly better in the fact that she didn’t let herself feel guilty in what she was feeling about Maddox.

Maddox was quite disappointing. He was driven by revenge ever since the beginning, that was his whole purpose and for good reason but literally decided to let all of that go because he was so attracted to Marcella.

I really hate when that happens, when a character changes so quickly and does things out of character for attraction because that’s what it was.

I don’t believe for a second how fast they “fell in love”.

Also 2 books for this storyline feels very unnecessary. Other couple deserved more to have 2 books instead.
