It wasn't as much fun as the Christmas story but it was intriguing and felt fairly real. I like the main characters, so I will continue with the Ruth Galloway mysteries for at least another book or two.

Wow. What a lame initial review for a series I've fallen in love with, except the last book (2019). Here's hoping the 2020 book gets us back on track.

For those who don't know, the Christmas story is titled Ruth's First Christmas Tree and I stumbled across it somewhere and it's very atmospheric and an interesting introduction to some of the key characters in this series.

This book kind of makes me want to become an archeologist lol. This is my fifth book that I’ve read by Griffiths that’s been a mystery and it is definitely her best so far and I’m super intrigued by the beginning of this series.
I loved the setting of the story. It made me want to visit the Saltmarsh and stay in an Airbnb and participate in a dig to find bones and ancient artifacts.
It was written in 2009 so there are some annoying things that happen in the book, like how Ruth is so overweight (even though she’s literally a size 12) and it’s mentioned consistently throughout the book by her. By the end, you get used to it, but it just kept making my eyes roll. But I loved Ruth, she’s a badass and smart and even funny at points. The ending? I don’t know about it, but we’ll see where that plot line ends up.
I honestly can’t wait to continue in the series.

I liked this first entry into the archaeologist Ruth Galloway mystery series. The main character, Ruth, sort of falls, or is dragged, into the murder mystery because of her profession; I like this more than the "I am a detective so of course I will solve a crime" kind of mystery.Archaeology is fascinating on its own, but throw in a murder and it's even better.
