I could have gone without so much of the archeology stuff but it was a good “who done it” and I’m looking forward to the next book in the series… especially where Ruth and Nelson are concerned.

A thoroughly absorbing cast of characters (although I picked 'the villain' early) and an interesting plot made this book a great light read for a lazy weekend.
This is written in 3rd person present tense POV, which for me just made it hard to get into the flow (the movie refused to play in my head). The main characters had no charisma. And you can pretty much guess the culprit at 40-50% mark

Like others have noted, the internalised fatphobia and the “my body has been wasted because I’m not a mother!” vibe were really icky, but overall I found this book enjoyable, if a little too heavy handed with the hints.
I enjoyed this. Got a good sense of the place. Nicely thought out plot. The characters were nicely human; even the 2 main characters had believable faults and it showed how messy relationships can be in real life.
Three and a half stars from me. If you can get past the relentless fat-hate in the first few chapters, this is really enjoyable. I love reading a book with a clever woman as the protagonist, which this serves up. The plot twists were cleverly worked. Will definitely read the rest of this series.
Loved the book. The plot twist was great. Once I started reading I couldn’t put the book down.
