No stars for this one as I stopped at page 19. It could have been good, very atmospheric and chilling, but unfortunately nearly every page mentions how fat the
protagonist is. I stopped at the point where she “boils the water for some nice, fattening pasta”. No thanks.

I really enjoyed this mystery. I thought it was well crafted, and I thought the audio narrator was excellent. I do think I will try another one by this author in the same series.

Ten years ago Lucy Downey was snatched from her bedroom and has been missing, presumed dead, ever since. DCI Harry Nelson has never stopped looking for her. When suspected human remains are discovered in the marshes on the Norfolk coast, Nelson enlists the help of archeology professor Ruth Galloway. Will they finally be able to solve the car and bring closure to Lucy's parents?
First in the Ruth Galloway series sets up the cast nicely. Griffiths introduces her characters so well that they immediately come to life in the mind's eye.
A bit of a slow burn at first, but with just enough to keep the pages turning. I had a strong guess of who the killer was fairly early on, but there was enough well placed misdirection to keep me doubting myself. Wasn't sure I'd be that interested in continuing the series until the last 30 pages or so which were really thrilling! Definitely going to read the next one - The Janus Stone.

An Elly Griffiths fan. A few fat-shaming style comments that I didn't think we're needed but apart from that I liked the plot and writing style.

I really enjoyed this one, it’s different/interesting with the archeological twist to things. Looking forward to reading more about Ruth and DI Nelson!
