A plot that keeps me guessing, solid writing, and interesting characters. Any two of those three things will keep me reading until the end. If it's good enough, sometimes one out of three is enough. This has none. Predictable plot, stupid and shallow characters, and writing that feels like a first attempt at fan fiction. I finished this book only to make sure I could always articulate how bad I think it is if it comes up in conversation.

4.5 because what the helly… didn’t see that one coming (are. we. shocked????).

NOT a 4.75 because this was the first time I finally felt a slight pattern set in with a few Frieda books for me personally. I’m not even going to say which titles because it isn’t significant enough, just slightly similar plot set-ups in a few different titles on the backlist.

this woman is a mastermind!

I was sucked in from the start, and once the first twist happened, I couldn’t put it down! I kept wanting to see what insane thing would happen next, and loved how McFadden tied things back after the twist. It felt a little over the top without feeling so unrealistic it seemed she was just trying to force a wild twist. The last chapter of the book felt unnecessary, and brought my rating down a little, but still excited to read the next one by this author.

Freida McFadden writes another page turner! This is the second book of hers I’ve read, the first being the Housemaid. I’m a slow reader and I finished the book in the span of two days!
