Starting off 2021 reading about having sex because I'm not getting any of anything at the moment.

In Along for the Ride, you're riding along with Jolene and Jason who have disliked each other for the past five years.
Jolene is helping her sister and brother-in-law move to a different state with their father.
However, Jolene's father wins a trip to the Bahamas and she is forced to be in a cheap, small moving truck with the person she hates the most- Jason.

During this trip, both Jason and Jolene come to realize that they do better coming together than keeping distance (no, but seriously. they do better coming together

This is a case of it's me, not you in terms of my reading experience, because I've been picking this book up and down and haven't had the time to read it on or two sittings like I usually do and caused to disconnect from the characters. I found this rec through Twitter actually and was so happy ro read about a Filipino MC and an interracial couple with a hate to love trope that tickled me pink. had a road trip aspect and goodness did I LOVE the family relationships in this book.

5/5 stars

Rivals to lovers. A road trip. The only one bed trope. Two amazing MCs. Super fun & steamy. A super cute cover. What more could you need

It felt like I was reading an irl relationship the mundane things you do when you're partnered. It was cute and the ending was adorbs. I loved Jason's mom and aunt. They need their own book.

The content warnings are in the front of the book but here are mine- death of a parent, manipulative behavior, and car theft.

for a book said to be enemies to lovers, these two got together remarkably quickly. but i love a bit of angst, and these two had rly good banter (even if the chemistry wasn't totally there imo)
v fun & light hearted romance, can't wait to pick another of MG's novels

I was fully expecting a road trip story from start to finish, but what I got was so. Much. MORE.

I wasn’t sure what to make of Miss. Jolene Baxter in the beginning, what between her abrasive (and yet not off-putting to me) personality and the second-hand embarrassment she just kept throwing my way, but somewhere before the halfway point I grew to really love her. I’ve only read this and Make a Scene by the author, but I love the way Mimi Grace writes her Black female protags and I just want to read anything and everything she puts her hands on!

Jolene is a little immature, has an attitude, but says what she means and is colorful and vibrant in a way that reminds me of many loved friends and previous classmates. With Jason, our resident love interest and the yin to her yang, their previous and only interaction at Jolene’s sister’s wedding showcased a not so faltering side of her, and Jolene thankfully isn’t the same person she was at 23. Mostly. Still, it doesn’t stop her and Jason from bickering and hurling insults at each other when they get together to help her sister and brother-in-law move.

What ensues is plenty of hilarity between a broke down moving fan, stolen but recovered furniture, and the simmering of the growing chemistry and attraction between Jason and Jolene reaching a boiling point. “Oh nooooo, there was only one bed!”

This is such a cute book! I love love love a good enemies to lovers trope, add a roadtrip in there and I'm yours. I loved seeing the two main characters fall in love because it felt so natural. Their relationship progression just warmed my heart!! I'll come back to this when I need a pick me up.
