Is it a rat? A monkey? A human mutant of some sort? An alien lifeform? I don't know, but it's evil and horrible. Brrr...

I don't like the fact that Lovecraft uses the pagan holidays to confirm the idea of witches as devil worshipers. :-(

The immortal witch, the dream walking, the reality with shady boundaries, parallel universes, how did they... why... what... er... but...? :-D Love that!

This is a really good Halloween Marathon :-)

Masters of Horror: season 1, episode 2

This short story was just not my cup of tea. I struggled through it, but it was a hard, hard story to complete.

H.P. Lovecraft never disappoints with his books, and this was no exception! Amazing and thrilling!

1.5 estrellas.

In the title story, Lovecraft attempts to connect many of his stories into one world as Randolph Carter travels through the dreamworld to find the Other Gods. At times it seems a little slapdash as cities or events from his other stories are mentioned in passing. Strangely, not all of these stories are included in the collection. Luckily, they are all available online if you care to follow up the references.

In "The Silver Key" and "Through the Gates of the Silver Key", Lovecraft seems to explore, through the character of Randolph Carter, the loss of youth and imagination, and the passage into middle age.

The collection ends with my favourite ever story by Lovecraft, "The Shadow out of Time". One of his onion peel-like layered stories with a stodgey protagonist revealing nihilistic cosmic horrors.
