Didn't love this book, but didn't hate it. The interwoven family relationships/dynamics over the years/generations were very well done and the writing itself was very good, but the characters were a little lackluster. I also think that the ending seemed a bit rushed/incomplete. While this wasn't my favorite I definitely would read another book by this author.

I really wanted to like this book but sadly I did not. This book had so much potential but there were too many things left unaddressed. There were scenarios that provided no value to the overall story, which made it feel like the author was looking for words to fill the pages. Some relationships felt forced as the characters did not mesh naturally.

This made me think so deeply about womanhood, family, race, obligations to ourselves and others… just so many moments of deep reflection. Love this book.

What an incredible mind Britt Bennett has? Creating such vivid and memorable characters and a storyline that includes so much history and depth.
I loved this book.
The story of twin sisters from a tiny non-town, who disappear and then go on to lead very separate and different lives.
It covers themes of racism, sexual identity, siblings, mothers and daughters, domestic violence.. there’s a bit of everything!
I highly recommend this book!!

I’d give this 3.5 stars. I thought the middle was a little slow and the very end wasn’t quite what i was hoping for (in an ending) but all in all, a great book. The title was really clever and weaved throughout the book.

What an incredible - emotional - story. I have not been able to stop thinking about it. The writing is just fantastic!

What happens when the lie becomes your reality? That is the crux of this story. Two sisters, two very separate paths, two very different outcomes.

But what about the other people living in your distorted reality?

And that is where this story leads us. I highly recommend this book!
