I expected something like agggtm and it was SO different and unexpected. It was pretty clear early on what was going on though, so the *twist* is in the first third of the book and the rest drags a bit on for that reason. I didn’t really like the writing style so 3 stars.

After leaving it sitting on a shelf of library books for several months, I thought it was about time that I got round to reading Patrice Lawrence's beguiling mystery. With more layers than your average onion, Eight Pieces of Silva was darkly fascinating, holding at its centre the concept of how one person's perception of someone is wildly different to another's. With an intriguing cast of characters, this mid-stakes mystery kept me hooked from start to finish.

Engaging story and convincing characters but does fall into that trap of having Cool Teens Make References that are unbelievably dated thirty seconds after publishing. It's not a problem per se but I do find it jarring.
