i was expecting to love this because i love the genre and everyone raves about it. however, i struggled enjoying a book where i really despised the main character. i never really wanted him to succeed so i never really got invested unfortunately. i only got invested in the side characters story which was devastating. the writing was amazing though.

I just wish I knew about the trigger warnings.
Very impactful storytelling.

I had the impression that Kite Runner wouldn't make me cry. Before searching for this book's trigger warnings on Google, I had already purchased the book. I was very hurt by this book. I am so furious with Amir for what he did to Hassan that I am at a loss for words. But I suppose Rahim was correct; at the time, he was still a young lad.

I can't even begin to describe how much this made me cry. I keep crying before going to bed merely by thinking of the sentence, "For you a thousand over," therefore I had to put down my book in order to cry.

Being overly spoilt on Google or TikTok has caused me to believe that I won't cry. Still, I cried.

The author has a very easy-to-read writing style, and convey emotions without excess wording. I learnt much about the culture of Afghanistan and the plights that the people face, in their own land and out of it. Grief, regret, and guilt is constant throughout the book, which the author uses to create a powerful story.

Though, honestly, this book wasn't that impactful to me. It didn't make me feel emotional, it didn't have that big an impact on me as I was expecting it to. Perhaps this is because I had high expectations after hearing about all the good reviews. Now that I think about it, the protagonist is a really passive character, who doesn't really do much on his own. The writing was easy to follow, which I liked, but the story itself probably won't stick around in my head for long.

This is not typically a book that I would pick up, but it was amazing. There is a reason why it’s considered a modern classic. So much of the story was full of heartbreaking moments that felt so raw and purely human. It was difficult not become attached to the characters and feel what they felt.

“For you, a thousand times over”
i cannot talk about this book without tearing up.

“There is only one sin. and that is theft... when you tell a lie, you steal someone's right to the truth.”
“It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime.”

“There are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood.”
"Children aren't coloring books. You don't get to fill them with your favorite colors."
“Time can be a greedy thing-sometimes it steals the details for itself.”
“I'm so afraid. Because I'm so profoundly happy. Happiness like this is frightening...They only let you this happy if they're preparing to take something from you.”
