An interesting personal look at fears and how to be more comfortable having them. I especially like the fact that the writer is not an expert. It made her experiences more relatable without the technical jargon.

Meh. I didn’t want to give it 2 stars because I didn’t dislike it, exactly. However, I had expected (and had been looking forward to) more science, and fewer stories. Consequently, I didn’t find this book as engaging as I had hoped.

It was 10% science and 90% memoir. Didn’t love it.

Really wanted to like this. The premise was great - how we respond and react to fear. However what I read was what I can only assume is a miserable woman’s life story with just a sprinkling of actual science. The author is scared, nervous, anxious about everything it seems. Must be a miserable way to live. When she actually gets into the science it’s fine but the “I worried about this” and that oh no, lost her mom when she was a grown woman and acts like it was the end of the world, I knew not to expect too much. I think in the old days she would have been referred to as having a weak disposition. She needs some better friends who tell her to suck it up buttercup and not let her continually wallow in a fear of everything all the time.

Meh.
More of a memoir than an exploration of science.

This is not a self help book for those suffering from anxiety and/or panic disorder but rather the journey of a woman's attempt to come to grips with them. The author describes fear and anxiety in interesting and eye opening ways through her own understanding and the scientific research of experts. I would recommend this to anyone wanting an inside view of the workings of anxiety and panic. Just know that additional books that are therapy based will be needed for actual techniques. The author includes a list of such books and papers at the end.
