Anyway. I had read Just One Day and Just One Year before, but;
1) I'd been craving a reread.
2) I had yet to read Just One Night and was desperate to.
3) I saw this steal in Barnes and Noble when I was on holiday in LA for $14.
4) I needed reading material for the 17-hour flight home.
Did I read any of it on the plane? Hell no, I watched tonnes of movies and slept like the dead (somehow). But that's beside the point! I'm going to bypass the two main books because I'm pretty sure I've ranted about how much I adore them either on my Goodreads or my YouTube but either way I think it's safe to say I love them.
But Just One Night?? Holy Mother of all things holy, I have found the love of my life. This book was an absolutely perfect conclusion to a whirlwind duology of emotional wreckage, love, and heartbreak and it put me back together nicely.
When I realised how short it was, I was slightly worried because I wanted more closure considering how long I'd put off reading this novella, but boy was I wrong. It held the perfect amount of romance, explanations, and plot to make it a lovely piece of work that flew by and left me absolutely content.

I am so ridiculously late to this party, and I can only hope that I'm not literally the last person to read this. (If you haven't, read it now; it's amazing.)
I think most readers will see a lot of themselves in Allyson, the girl who follows all the rules and has a multi-step plan for her life. This book, of course, is what happens when she stops following those rules and ditches The Plan. She and Willem have a meet-cute and she spontaneously decides (after their next and even cuter meeting) to go with him to Paris. I will never have an epic love story because I would never go anywhere alone with a stranger, much less to Paris. So my life will never be Just One Day but on the plus side, it also won't end up like Taken or Hostel. (We hope.)
But this is just an amazing, perfect book. I loved watching Allyson grow over the course of the story and the ending...wow. I was very happy to be able to read Just One Year right after.

Very detailed. I felt like I was actually experiencing Paris, and Amsterdam and all the places that Allyson haunted. It took quite a bit of time for me to really invest myself in the characters and their story but once I did, I wanted more. I wish the Dee character was developed a little more.
Cannot wait for the next installment.

Gayle Forman's writing is so incredibly beautiful, which is the main reason this book got three stars. I liked the premise behind this book, but the 'girl pining for a guy' thing is just not my favorite. I'm going to read Just One Year because I enjoy reading from male perspectives. Hopefully I'll enjoy it a little more than this one.
