I knew next to nothing about Dungeon Crawler Carl before I picked it up, other the series has been gaining a lot of popularity. I picked it up on a whim, somewhat convinced It wouldn’t be for me - I’ve been let down by a lot of hyped books recently. Instead,  I proceeded to accidentally read almost 80 pages instead of sleeping.

It’s a fun read, with snarky characters. If you enjoy RPGs or video games (and don’t mind gore, violence and some crudeness) the chances are high that you might like this.

Imagine a mashup of Saga, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, and Ready Player One, and you've got Dungeon Crawler Carl: a hilarious, profane, gross-out action adventure with characters to root for. Manages to be both silly and clever. Great world-building and unique monster/creature design. Can't wait to read the next one!

This is one of the funniest, most imaginative books I've read in a long time. It balances humor, drama, gore, heavy themes, and interpersonal character dynamic so wonderfully.
