This is a 3.5 for me, but I’ll give it a 4 for being a book I’ll think about for awhile. I had heard this book hyped in a couple places and thought it sounded like a fascinating, page turning thriller. Unfortunately, that wasn’t really the case for me. In fact, I found the first half slow, and had to actually write down all the different characters and their stories in order to remember all of them.
The second half picks up, and I enjoyed the philosophical and religious discussion around “The Anomaly” as well as each character’s response to it. It was a fascinating exploration of fate and free will and humanity in general. It raises a lot of questions but answers few of them. If you’re looking for a thriller or sci-fi with a never-saw-it-coming twist, this is probably not the right book. Overall, I found it interesting, but felt like the beginning was drawn out and the ending was rushed. It didn’t have the satisfying conclusion I hoped for, but I also think that was kind of the point.
