This should not be a stand alone book. There is just so much missing for each of the characters backgrounds. Wonder Woman and Green Lantern were pretty unnecessary for the story. The female characters always looked tremendously awkward to me. The art style was not my favorite either. 2 stars because it was ok.

This is a good Batman story, but I like it when the villains are more in Batman’s league, not Kryptonians who are only going to be defeated by Superman. He got a lot of help in this one, as if they had to involve the entire greater DC universe for some reason. The best Batman stories are when Batman is fighting humanity, either that of Gotham City or that within himself. He didn’t get to do that here.

Man alive! I've got my Miller and Azzarello on this weekend. This was a great series. I look forward to reading The Golden Child!

The whiplash in quality from Returns, to Strikes Again, to Master Race is insane.

The art is better when Miller leaves the pencils to Kubert, Janson, Romita, and his other collaborators: he's pushed his own art into such grotesque regions as to be distracting and, arguably, in some panels, actively bad.

As for story: erratic. Could have been amazing, but the lead antagonist never achieves dimensionality, and is in fact something of a bumbler. Far below Miller's work on The Dark Knight Returns.

I mean I’ve read way worse books. It’s got good moments.

Frank Miller can be hit or miss, but this was definitely a huge hit.

A great Batman story, stakes that kept the pages turning, and social allegory that fit perfectly with the world we live in. And Carrie continues to be one of Batman's best sidekicks of all time.

It's very strange to me that this one seems to be liked so much more than Dark Knight pt. 2.

I mean, I get why this is not the favorite of the trilogy, but in the battle over which one is Star Wars and which one is Return of the Jedi to Dark Knight I's Empire Strikes Back, the selection most people have made it one I would not have expected.

I felt like, while imperfect, DK II is wilder. It's weirder. It's trying to say something, I'm not 100% sure what that something is, but I think there's an ambitious attempt in DK II that's missing a bit from DK III, which strives to tell a more conventional sort of story.

To be honest, the art in this one, while good, just makes me wish for more Frank Miller art. There's SOME in here, small stories between the main issues, but what can I say, I like Frank Miller's pencils.

I'm not going to say they're an acquired taste, that'd make it seem like my taste was better than average or something, and I assure you, it's not. I think I just enjoy Miller's art because it doesn't look like anyone else.

DK I is iconic. It might be my desert island comic book.

DK II is not beloved, but I had a good time with it.

DK III is liked more than DK II, but for me, it's more forgettable.
